Sri Seshadri Swamigal Ashram
Seshadri Swamigal Ashram is one of the major places to visit in Tiruvannamalai. It is located next to Sri Ramanashramam between the second and third Lingam on the circumambulation route. The Ashram is dedicated to the devotees of Sri Seshadri Swamigal, the great saint of Kancheepuram. A Regular Puja is performed at the samadhi of Sri Seshadri Swamigal. The Samadhi is surrounded by a few platforms for meditation in the open. A good accommodation is available at the Ashram and food is served by its canteen.
Yogi Ram Surat Kumar Ashram
Yogi Ramsurat kumar was the spiritual guru. After completing his prolonged spiritual voyage, he finally visited Tiruvannamalai. The devotees of Yogi Ramsurat kumar wished him to live in an Ashram. The Yogi Ram Surathkumar Ashram is developed at Agrahara collai with a total area of 3.5 Acres. Regular Puja is performed at the Ashram. The facility is available for the visitors to participate in the Puja.
Arunachaleswara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built in the 16th and the 17th centuries by the Chola kings of the Tamil empire. Arunachaleswara Temple is famous for its huge gopurams which has been determined inscription in the structure, made during the reign of Chola kings. It is one of the panchabhoota sthalam - representing five basic elements. The fortified walls of the temple are pierced with 4 gopura entrances giving a formidable look to this vast temple complex.
Sri Ramana Ashram
The famous saint, Mahan Sri Ramana Maharishi who lived at Tiruvannamalai attained “Mukthi” in Sri Ramana Ashram. The Ashram is one the holy places in this town. Visitors from all over the country come and pay tribute to the Holy Saint. It is said that a unique spiritual connection will be evoked if you mediate in the meditation hall of Raman ashram. Good accommodation is available at the asharam.
Sathanur Dam is constructed across Pennaiyar River along the Chennakesava Hills. The dam was constructed during the year 1958. Sathanur Dam has many beautiful parks and a mini zoo to visit. The park has numerous colorful statues. Apart from this, there is a swimming pool and a crocodile farm that make it more interesting. Some of the great films of the region in 1960-1980 were shot in these parks. It has emerged as one of the most favored picnic spot for the children.
Javadu Hills is one of the important tourist destinations situated 75 kms from Tiruvannamalai. This beautiful hill is situated at 2350 feet to 3500 feet above sea level. The place is famous for some of the most attractive scenic destinations of the surroundings. Some of the attractions of the hill are Beema Falls, Kavalur Observatory, Komutteri Lake, Amirthi Forest, and the famous Glass House. Buses or Taxies are available from Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, and Vellore to visit Javadu Hills.
